Alice Expunged From eBob
March 12, 2008

Just in from a reader in Oregon about the eRobertparker.com forum.

"If you attempt to type "Feiring" it gets completely asterisked out."

Just for fun, I did a little search on my name on the site, and sure enough, old threads on my stories, like my irrigation story and there it is Alice *******.

Good going guys.

So, I'm sure there are others but, they blocked Jeremy Parzen from signing up, they kicked off Lyle Fass and Bill Nanson of The Burgundy Report......but they let Jamie Goode post? I guess he's not said anything to piss them off. What's that section from my book? Here it is, straight from the pages of Chapter 8, "My Date With Bob."

Parker: "I have always believed in diversity of opinion,” he told me as if he had gone through these speech oh-so-many times. “I mean, I never commented on that woman’s book (Elin Mccoy’s biography, The Emperor of Taste) but the one real annoying thing that was totally untrue she said about me is that I have thin skin, that I don’t accept criticism and I go after wine writers."

Isn't it lucky that the powers that run the eBob board are into wine and not running for office?

Wow, persona non grata.

It's not everyday that a person is considered such a threat that they literally un-make you as a user in such a fashion. You should be honored.

Alice,

Maybe you should send Mark Squires an email and see if he'll give you a special color of asterisks. Hot pink? Radioactive green?

But I agree with Randy, it's an honor.

Makes me doubly glad I let my membership lapse a while back.

They are very silly to do that.

The quote from your book is funny! Agree, good thing they are not politicians.

It's high school

Marco on March 13, 2008 01:44 AM

o.k., i know i've said this before, but i've never been back this poisonous den of the monkton inquisition since mark squires went into pit-chihuahua mode and completely lost it over michael broadbent voicing an opinion that was at odds with the teachings of HE WHO MUST BE AGREED WITH.

it has changed my life. no more shrill pathetic acerbic irrational character assassinations messing with my day. no more of the pantings of stepford winos jostling each other to worship at the fountain of $300/bottle cough syrup.

futhermore (for those that care about such things), if you're never there, you can't get thrown out.

Pretty remarkable. Certainly not the behavior you would hope or expect (or is it?) -- certainly validates some of the things that people have said about him -- and actually is a badge of honor and good publicity for you.

I am sorry, but he is still on my blogroll -- but he is now listed as Robert ******.

Tom on March 13, 2008 02:00 PM

It is just the most insane juevenile behavior I have ever seen on the wine internet . . .well there are a few others but Squires and Parker are finally getting revenge on the people who bullied them in the schoolyard. They finally have their power and they are using it!

dear alice
i have been considering buying your book - said to admit, but books have (almost) become a luxury item for me.

now i've decided i'll buy it no matter what.

feel honoured.

ps - totally agree, better keep this kind of people writing about wine.

Heloisa Pizzato Fialho on March 14, 2008 02:25 AM

Alice,
Power corrupts, fear makes one paranoid and when one reaches Murphy's law their is but one possibility.

My position is taste for yourself listen to no one and take responsibility for your choices. If you like it drink it and let the others bring their own!

Mark V Marino on March 14, 2008 02:59 AM

Alice, I disagree... they are exactly like politicians, in the sense that they'll lie to your face and smile while doing it.

By the way, how many Parker points did your book get?
