A few months back I was walking with my friend Howard and stopped into a wine shop on 6th Avenue. The Wine Hut (http://thewinehutnyc.com/) I expected dreck, merely because of location and because I had
never heard of it. What I got was
Radikon!
and then I got
more Bornard then I ever saw in one store. And then?
And then.......as if a total set up the owner was reading me.
You'll find things in the store that other's are sold out of, so well worth stalking.

Then, today. I was on the way out to Great Neck for a bad movie and worse kosher Chinese. Had time to kill in Penn Station so I browsed the wine store, I thought a perfect Cuozzo hangout.
But what did I find? Nikolaihoff!
more pineau d'aunis,
in the form of Emile Hérédia's Domaine de Montrieux
Guillot-Broux's 2009 Gamay and more Ryme Cellars.
My grandfather was born the year the lightbulb was discovered, the changes he saw in his life were staggering. In the same way I'd never believe that Penn Station, the very scene of aesthetic destruction, would be a wine safe zone.
If you've any doubt that there's a wine revolution afoot. I rest my case.

Hi Alice...
I know the Wine Hut well. Its a great shop and an excellent curated collection of many natural wines.
They btw, will be joining www.thelocalsip.com wine community tasting marketplace, as soon as they have their website redone.
Wine shops are in my opinion the greatest influencers of the consumer's taste. And New York especially has many really excellent ones.
Thanks for this post.
