Alice,
To right. Great book, but he ignores a lot of great wines at his own prices in favor of very large brands (as he did in previous editions). "The Palate. . ." (lol) has a nice book of deals under 25 . . . but he also ignores a lot of great wine at that price as well. I'd be curious what you think is showing very well this month as the last set of recommendations I gleaned from you were great (and yes, clarine was among them!). Hope to see you soon,
Thanks,
Ben

I know you're beef is with the brands, Alice, but it's also such a specious argument, Cava vs DP in a blind tasting. Have you ever tried a young Dom Perignon? They are searingly acidic. I would forget about them for 15-20 years. Cava is meant to be inoffensive and nice. Of course it would win. It's like comparing a 08 1st growth claret with a Chilean cabernet. That's not to say DP is worth the money. . .

Henry

I'm hunting the Leon Trotskys, the Philip Roths, the Chaucers and the Edith Whartons of the wine world. I want them natural and most of all, I want them to speak the truth even if we argue. With this messiah thing going on, I'm trying to swell the ranks of those who crave the differences in each vintage, celebrate nuance and desire wines that make them think, laugh, and feel. Welcome.
