Last night I was being witchy, predicting that Bernie's company would, realize that Champagnes are not vinyl impregnated bags easily reproduced in China. Yes, I said, one of the upsides of the economy, would sell the wine brands off. The hope would be that they would be sold off to someone who didn't not view them as brands.
On Decanter's news site this morning? LVMH might be selling off their Champagne portfolio...........to Diageo for about 12 billion pounds.
That news felt anti-climactic. After all the mega drinks group, Diageo is already a 34% owner of the MH wine group, but might, just might, be more respectful to the bubbles and the land.
I'll enjoy watching this, and who knows, maybe Pernod-Ricard will join in?
Off to the hinterlands of the Catskills to pick ramps. Check back in for the video.......
