Off to the Loire to work the vendage. My first plan was to work in Burgundy. The problem was, however, that their harvest was going to begin the day I was due to return to New York. Obviously, that was a problem.
So, a quick e-mail, confirmed that Clos Roche Blanche in the Tourainne was starting the week of the 11th. Catherine Roussel was kind enough to say she would put up with me and put me up. (She reported yesterday that the grapes were beautiful.)
I hope I won't prove myself too much a wimp. Excelling at hard labor was never one of my fine points. But, with any luck, I will be picking in the cot vineyard, filled with, as Catherine calls them, "the old ladies." And I always had a love for old ladies.
Please, check back on September 22 for my next posting, a Loire vintage update, and some Paris sightings.
